There is a way to decorate a plain wall in your house without wasting a lot of money. A large painting?, Nope, it's more personal and I call it the memories wall.
Having a lot of family photograph and abandoned frames? Put it out on the wall. Give the same measure spacing between frames to make it look more eye catching. Or you can print your favorite quote, poster, picture, any personal belongings that have a special meaning or history on your life, then put it inside frames and hang it on the wall, like this one,
Playing with the frames proportion by using a different size and shapes. Be elegant with a classic white frames, and you can be eclectic by using a colorful frames. Just be you! so people who see it will know your personality and part of your life.

You don't have a frames?, hang a long wire horizontally on the wall. Then hang a photograph on the wire with a clip. Simple but still chic :)
You also can buy a big frame and making your own photograph collage into it.
